Importing Remote-Controlled Lawn Mowers from China: A Dealer's First-Order Playbook
The machines are the easy part — the first order is where dealership launches stall. A phased playbook covering test units, certification, trade terms, export packing, OEM branding and spare parts.
Talk to enough garden-machinery dealers and a pattern emerges: the launches that struggle rarely picked the wrong machine — they ran a wrong first order. Six models arrive mixed in one container, the certification paperwork does not match the destination market, nobody planned the loading, and the program stalls in a warehouse instead of in front of customers.
This playbook is the sequence we walk through with new importers and dealers, in decision order: a one-unit trial, certification, freight terms, packing, OEM branding and spare parts. The SENCO range — remote-controlled mowers, the H900 crawler, the G800 flail mower, the D800 straw crusher and the 6D utility cart — provides the working examples, but the sequence applies to any tracked-mower program you build with a factory.
Start with one unit, not a container
Minimum order quantity decides how much risk your first step carries, so ask it first. Across the SENCO range the minimum order is 1 unit / 1 set for most models, and single-unit samples can ship by sea or air. That turns your first decision from a container-sized bet into a machine-sized experiment: put one unit on your own ground and let it answer the questions a specification sheet cannot.
Test the three things your customers will actually feel. Remote behavior in your conditions: radio control reaches up to 1,000 m on the G800 and D800 and up to 200 m on the H900, but the trees, fences and buildings on your sites are the real referee. Slope and traction: the H900 carries a published 70° maximum working slope rating, while the G800 and D800 hold an even cut with automatic slope-following decks and wide rubber tracks. Cut range against your contracts: 10–200 mm blade lift on the H900, 20–150 mm on the compact SK-550, and 2–20 cm on the diesel pair.
One more number belongs in your customer quotes: productivity. The SK-550 covers up to 1,500 m² per hour at 4 km/h, which is the difference between quoting a two-day job and a half-day job. If you have not yet settled which model fits which terrain, read our guide to choosing a remote-controlled mower for steep slopes and orchards, then order the test unit.
Confirm certification before money moves
Certification is where first-time importers lose the most time, because requirements differ by destination: CE machinery compliance for the EU, EPA engine documentation for the United States, with Stage V, EEC and DOT documents in play depending on the product and market. Across the SENCO range, CE, EPA, Stage V, EEC and DOT documentation is available depending on model — and the operative words are depending on model. Not every document exists for every machine, so confirm the exact package for your destination in writing at quotation stage, before any payment is made.
Ask the factory two specific questions: which documents are issued for the exact model and engine version you are buying, and which documents ship inside the crate. Export crates carry the operator's manual, a spare-parts list and certification documents, but your customs broker may need more — briefing them early is your job; telling you what exists is the factory's.
Sample order vs first container: what actually changes
The jump from a trial unit to a container changes the decisions, not just the quantity. A sample order answers technical questions; a container order adds loading plans, freight terms and a document set for customs clearance. Work through this checklist before you confirm either.
| Decision | Sample order | First container order |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity | 1 unit / 1 set for most models | Mixed model loading possible — agree the loading plan with the factory |
| Goal | Prove terrain fit, remote range and cut quality on your ground | Launch stock plus one demo unit that keeps working |
| Freight | Sea or air freight for a single crate | Full container under FOB, CIF or DDP terms |
| Packing | Single export wooden crate | Reinforced seaworthy wooden crates with a planned container loading |
| Branding | Factory-standard SENCO machine | OEM branding available — your brand, colors and logos |
| Documents | Manual, spare-parts list and certification documents | The export document set your broker requires — confirm the list in advance |
FOB, CIF or DDP: choosing your trade term
Trade terms decide who books the vessel, who pays for it and where your risk begins — and they are not fixed: FOB, CIF, DDP and door-to-door options are available on request. The right term depends on whether you already have a freight forwarder in China and how much of the logistics you want to own.
| Trade term | Main freight arranged by | Import clearance | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| FOB | Your forwarder, from the Chinese port | You | Importers with an existing forwarder and multi-supplier volume |
| CIF | The factory, to your destination port | You | First-time importers who want simple booking but their own broker |
| DDP | The factory, through to final delivery | Arranged by the factory | Buyers who want a landed cost per unit with minimal logistics overhead |
| Door-to-door | Factory and forwarder, per agreement | Per agreement | Small or mixed loads and trial programs |
A practical note: first-time importers often start with CIF or DDP and move to FOB once their own forwarder relationship exists. Whichever you choose, ask for the quotation to state the term and the port names explicitly — ambiguity here is the most common source of landed-cost surprises.
What seaworthy packing should include for a tracked machine
Tracked mowers are heavy and top-heavy, so packing is not a formality. The SK-550 nets 150 kg and the H900 crawler 305 kg; machines in this class ship in reinforced seaworthy wooden crates with metal corner guards, foam padding and ratchet straps that lock each machine to its crate base. Every crate carries the operator's manual, a spare-parts list and certification documents.
Crate dimensions are published per model — 1,000 × 980 × 710 mm for the SK-550 and 1,460 × 1,300 × 780 mm for the H900 — which is exactly what you need for container loading plans and forwarder quotes. The 6D golf cart ships with dust-proof, moisture-proof and shock-resistant seaworthy protection. If a supplier cannot state crate size and weight at quotation stage, treat it as a warning sign.
OEM branding: prove the models first, brand the repeat order
OEM branding and packaging are available across the SENCO range — your brand, colors and logos on the machine and the export carton, with custom configurations confirmed per order. The golf cart line shows how far the program runs: any body color, plus custom decals, lettering, LOGO and seat embroidery for clubs, resorts and fleet buyers.
On timing, our advice is consistent: keep the first order factory-standard, prove the model mix in your market, and move to OEM from the repeat order. Branding multiplies a line that already sells. And once your brand is on the machine, spare-parts planning stops being optional — your customers will come to you, not to a catalog.
Spare parts: order them with the container
Spare-parts packages are available for dealer and farm programs, and we recommend taking one with the first container. The consumables are predictable: 6 mm carbon-steel blades for the G800 flail mower and D800 straw crusher, filters and belts for the 195F diesel engines, handset and battery spares for the compact remote models. A dealership that puts machines back to work in days instead of weeks is the one that keeps commercial customers.
After-sales is also a range decision. The SK-500 line exists partly for sites that cannot run petrol machines at all: the 3 kW lithium version cuts 500 mm with mulching support, zero emissions and low noise, which opens hotel, campus and urban-park contracts that a petrol-only program cannot touch. Building that option in from the start is cheaper than retrofitting it after a customer asks.
Behind the range sits Yuanmao Intelligent Technology Machinery Co., Ltd., building machinery in Jiaxiang County, Jining, Shandong since 2012 — a 30,000–50,000 m² factory with a team of 51–100 people and an annual capacity of 30,000 units. Send us the models you are considering, your destination market and port, and we will reply with a model mix, a packing format and an indicative quotation; one test unit is enough to start.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for a first trial?
Minimum order is 1 unit / 1 set for most models, and single-unit samples can ship by sea or air. A one-machine trial on your own terrain is the recommended first step before committing to a container.
Which certifications do I need to import the mowers?
It depends on your destination and model: CE, EPA, Stage V, EEC and DOT documentation is available depending on model. Confirm the exact document package for your market in writing at quotation stage, before payment.
Which trade term should a first-time importer choose?
FOB if you already work with a freight forwarder in China, CIF if you want the factory to arrange ocean freight while you clear customs, DDP if you prefer a landed cost per unit. All three plus door-to-door options are available.
Can the machines carry my own brand?
Yes. OEM branding and packaging are available across the range — your brand, colors and logos on the machine and the export carton, with custom configurations confirmed per order. The golf cart line extends to custom body colors, decals, lettering, LOGO and seat embroidery.
How are the machines packed for sea freight?
In reinforced seaworthy wooden crates with metal corner guards, foam padding and ratchet straps. Crates include the operator's manual, spare-parts list and certification documents, and per-model packing dimensions are published for container planning.
